Finnish President proposes holding Trump-Putin meeting in late November

President of Finland Alexander Stubb has proposed new talks between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin at the end of November.

According to Ukrinform, media outlet Yle reported this in an article.

Speaking at the opening of the National Defense Courses, Stubb suggested that the new Trump-Putin talks be held during the November G20 leaders' summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Stubb also paid special attention to nuclear weapons.

"We have moved on to a new nuclear age where, unfortunately, the role that nuclear weapons play has been increasing," Stubb said.

He recalled that Trump had ordered nuclear weapons tests in response to tests conducted by Russia and North Korea.

Recently, NATO also conducted its annual exercises.

Stubb noted that the North Atlantic Alliance provides nuclear protection for Finland since the United States, France, and the United Kingdom possess nuclear weapons.

"These are the things we used to think about on our own, as small Finland. Of course, the global situation was also different. Now, we are involved in all key cooperation structures," he noted.

He stated that Finland's national defense is in good condition and continues to develop.

Stubb also added that Russia's war is ongoing and that Finland continues to support Ukraine. "During this time, it has become clear to me that when we support Ukraine, we also benefit in many ways. Ukraine has an unparalleled understanding of modern warfare, and we are learning a lot from them," he remarked.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, on October 22, U.S. President Donald Trump said he canceled his meeting with Russian leader Putin after realizing he would not achieve what he had hoped to during the negotiations.
