Zelensky on call with Trump: key to peace is depriving Russian military machine of resources
This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron following the meetings in Paris, according to a Ukrinform correspondent.
"Today we spoke with President Trump. We thank him for his support. It was a long, detailed conversation about how to push the situation towards peace. We discussed various options. The most important thing is pressure, using strong measures, including economic ones, to force an end to the war. The key to peace is depriving the Russian war machine of money and resources," Zelensky said.
According to him, the head of the White House expressed dissatisfaction that European countries are buying Russian oil, in particular Hungary and Slovakia.
"I want to remind you that when Russia attacked our energy sector and we responded by attacking theirs, it was these two countries that complained to Trump that Ukraine was reducing their ability to obtain oil. Ukraine found this type of sanction. But, of course, I am glad that today the US, naming these countries, is openly saying that they are helping the Russian war machine. And we all need to stop this," Zelensky said.
In addition, according to him, the issue of maximum protection of Ukrainian airspace was raised.
"This is about saving lives. And until there is peace, our people should not have to depend on constant Russian attacks, Russian missiles, and Iranian drones. They should not take the lives of Ukrainians. This is important, and it is possible. We are counting on this program. We have agreed on further contacts," said the President of Ukraine.
As reported by Ukrinform, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine is waiting for a positive signal from the United States regarding a new format for protecting its airspace.
