Zelensky proposes appointing Kravchenko as Ukraine's prosecutor general

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has proposed that the Verkhovna Rada appoint Ruslan Kravchenko, former head of the State Tax Service, as Ukraine's next prosecutor general.

Verkhovna Rada Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk announced this on Facebook, according to Ukrinform.

"In accordance with Clause 11, Part 1, Article 106 and Part 3, Article 131-1 of the Constitution of Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has submitted a proposal to the Verkhovna Rada seeking consent for the appointment of Ruslan Andriiovych Kravchenko as prosecutor general," Stefanchuk said.

He added that the parliament would consider the proposal at one of its upcoming plenary sessions.

Kravchenko served as a prosecutor in the Chief Military Prosecutor's Office of the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine from 2015 to 2017. He was the lead prosecutor in the high-profile case in which former President Viktor Yanukovych was convicted of treason and abetting acts of war.

From 2019 to 2020, Kravchenko served as deputy military prosecutor of the central region of Ukraine.

Between 2020 and 2021, he headed the department overseeing criminal proceedings related to offenses in the defense-industrial sector at the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Military and Defense Affairs within the Prosecutor General's Office.

From 2021 to 2023, Kravchenko headed the Bucha District Prosecutor's Office in the Kyiv region.

In April 2023, he was appointed Kyiv regional governor by presidential decree. He was dismissed from that role in December 2024, and shortly thereafter, he was appointed head of the State Tax Service.
