It is dangerous if U.S. "turns its back" on Ukraine – Zelensky
According to a Ukrinform correspondent, Zelensky made this statement during a joint press conference with Finnish President Alexander Stubb responding to a question about whether he feels that the U.S. has turned its back on Ukraine. He was also asked if he believes that President Donald Trump could convince Russian leader Vladimir Putin to agree to ceasefire terms acceptable to Ukraine.
"It is very dangerous for Ukraine if America is not our strategic partner or turns its back on us. We have received signals of this danger. I am grateful to President [Donald Trump] and his team for restoring everything. This speaks to our shared strategic vision for the future of Ukrainians. I truly believe this will not change," Zelensky said.
The Ukrainian President also mentioned that he would have a phone conversation with President Trum on March 19 and would share the details afterward. "The call will be today. Everything else will come after the call," he noted.
Regarding the ceasefire, Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine is interested in a complete cessation of hostilities. "As for an unconditional ceasefire, we truly want to end the war. We understand that the Russians don't want to end it. We want everyone to eventually see who Putin really is," he added.
As reported by Ukrinform, on Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin had a phone conversation about the need to end the war in Ukraine. Trump's administration announced that the Russians agreed to a limited ceasefire targeting energy infrastructure in Ukraine.
