Zelensky speaks with Germany’s Merz
The head of state reported this on X, Ukrinform saw.
"Had a productive conversation with the leader of the CDU party, which won the Bundestag elections, Friedrich Merz. We coordinated our positions and I appreciate his support. Ukraine highly values Germany’s efforts to restore European security and protect lives in our country. We remember that Germany is the leader in supplying air defense systems to Ukraine and plays a crucial role in ensuring our financial stability," Zelensky noted.
The president noted that he had agreed with Friedrich Merz on further cooperation and contacts.
As Ukrinform reported, on February 23, Germany held snap federal elections, in which the majority (28.5%) was sealed by the bloc of Christian parties CDU/CSU. Thus, Friedrich Merz, whom the bloc nominated as candidate for Chancellor’s post, obtained a mandate to form a government.
Earlier, Germany transferred to Ukraine six IRIS-T SLM and five IRIS-T SLS air defense systems.
According to Volodymyr Zelensky, since the start of the big war, Ukraine has received three Patriot systems from Germany.
