Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had a phone call with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte during which they discussed Turkey's role in providing security guarantees for Ukraine.

The head of state announced this on his Telegram channel, Ukrinform reports.

"I had a meaningful and productive conversation with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. I briefed him on my recent meeting with President Erdoğan, where we discussed Turkey's role in providing security guarantees. Ukraine needs broad international support in this process: Europe -- including the UK and Turkey – and the United States," the statement read.

Rutte, in turn, informed Zelensky about his meeting with Keith Kellogg, the U.S. Special Envoy for Ukraine and Russia.

"The key messages align with our goal of achieving a lasting peace -- not just a temporary ceasefire. It is crucial to ensure that Putin does not return with his war in a few months or years," the statement said.

Additionally, both sides discussed upcoming engagements with international partners and coordinated further steps.

Zelensky stressed that Putin must not be allowed to deceive the world again. Before any potential negotiations, all partners must have a clear understanding that strong security guarantees are the priority for achieving lasting peace.

On February 19, President Zelensky was in Turkey, where he met with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The key topics of their discussions in Ankara included global food security, economic cooperation, the release of prisoners, and security guarantees.
