Ukrainian president’s advisor, Irish ambassador discuss sanctions against Russia

Advisor and Presidential Commissioner for Sanctions Policy Vladyslav Vlasiuk and Ambassador of Ireland to Ukraine Jonathan Conlon have discussed cooperation to prevent Russia from getting weapons components bypassing sanctions.

That’s according to the President’s Office, Ukrinform reports.

It is noted that Ukraine and Ireland Ukraine and Ireland agreed to continue cooperation to tighten oversight of dual-use goods

"We appreciate the efforts of the Irish side and their serious approach to this issue. We look forward to further cooperation to ensure that Russia cannot acquire components for weapons and ammunition by circumventing sanctions," Vlasiuk stated.

During the meeting, the parties discussed increasing sanctions pressure on Russia, particularly Ireland's proposals for the 16th EU sanctions package. They also focused on sanctions against the Russian energy sector and the shadow fleet, as well as the EU's refusal to import Russian LNG.

“Another important topic was the investigation into the presence of Irish-made components in Russian weapons. Jonathan Conlon emphasized that Ireland has thoroughly studied the materials provided by Ukraine and has taken measures to strengthen control over production and prevent critical components from reaching the aggressor country,” the President’s Office added.

As reported by Ukrinform, according to media reports, Russia fired 194 ballistic missiles at Ukraine in January-November. About 60 of these missiles were North Korean KN-23s containing components manufactured in Western countries.
