Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry lifts advisory urging citizens to avoid travel to Hungary

Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has lifted its recommendation for citizens to refrain from traveling to Hungary.

This was announced by Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

“In connection with the conclusion of yesterday’s election campaign in Hungary, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is canceling its previous recommendation for citizens to avoid travel to Hungary. This campaign, which unfortunately was filled with manipulations regarding Ukraine, is now behind us. Accordingly, the heightened risks of provocations that led to these restrictions have also subsided,” the statement reads.

Sybiha added that the ministry now expects the election results to lead to a normalization of relations between Ukraine and Hungary, and that Ukraine is ready to work toward this goal.

“The choice of the Hungarian people has demonstrated their desire to live in peace, security, and prosperity – to live in a truly independent Hungary that is part of a united and free Europe, rather than a zone of Moscow’s influence... The choice of Hungarians also marked the defeat of policies of blackmail and anti-Ukrainian propaganda,” the post says.

According to Sybiha, ahead lies careful and pragmatic work to find common ground, restore mutual respect, and implement shared practical interests. “We will work to restore good neighborly relations in the interests of both our countries and Europe as a whole,” the foreign minister emphasized.
