Zelensky: I did not discuss elections with Trump

Ukrinform
President Volodymyr Zelensky said that during a telephone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump, the issue of holding possible elections in Ukraine was not discussed.

The head of state told journalists about this during a visit to the Khmelnytsky NPP, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“This question was not raised, he [Trump] did not voice it,” Zelensky said.

As Ukrinform reported, on February 12, at a press conference at the White House, Trump, answering a question about whether Zelensky would stay away from peace talks in Ukraine, said he did not think so. “No, it's not, as long as he's there. But at some point, you also need to have elections,” the US president said.

Earlier, in an interview with The Guardian, Zelensky said that elections without the participation of the military, Ukrainians from the occupied territories and those abroad would not be fair.

During a joint interview with First Lady Olena Zelenska, the President said that the main condition for holding elections is the end of martial law in Ukraine.
