Mustafa Dzhemilev: in Russia, change of regime ultimately taking place

In the Russian Federation, all processes will start to unfold rapidly once freedom of expression is granted, ultimately leading to a change of regime.

This was revealed by Mustafa Dzhemilev, the leader of the Crimean Tatar people and a member of the Verkhovna Rada, in an interview with Ukrinform.

"Fear prevails in Russia, and non-Russian peoples are under even greater pressure than Russians themselves. Therefore, in the current situation, it is difficult to talk about any movements within Russia. Many people are forced to leave the country: the Volga Tatars are in Munich and London, and the Chechen government is in exile in London", Dzhemilev stated

According to him, the further development of the situation in Russia will depend on how much freedom of expression will be allowed.

"In the Soviet era, there were also oppressions, but within three years of perestroika, popular fronts emerged, and national movements were revived. And in Russia, everything will happen very quickly once there is freedom to express one's point of view without being thrown into prison. I believe that ultimately there will be a change of regime in Russia," said the leader of the Crimean Tatars.

He noted that he is concerned about the position of Western countries in this matter.

"During the Soviet era, the West was also against the dissolution of the Soviet Union because they considered it a nuclear country. They were concerned about whose hands the nuclear weapons would fall into and feared the start of uncontrolled processes. A similar sentiment exists in Western countries today. However, after the collapse of the USSR, such fears proved unfounded, and I believe they will not be justified with the future dissolution of the Russian Federation," Dzhemilev believes.
