Morawiecki sees Germany's refusal to provide weapons to Ukraine as 'big disappointment'

Russian President Vladimir Putin's "investments" in politicians and lobbyists in the West are paying off, and Berlin's refusal to provide Kyiv with weapons to protect itself from the aggressor is "a big disappointment."

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said this in a post on Facebook on Tuesday, Ukrinform reports.

"We are concerned about the situation in Ukraine and the reaction of our German neighbors in light of the threat posed by Russia. A big disappointment is, in particular, the suspension of Germany's consent to the supply of weapons from Estonia to the country that is preparing to defend itself against the aggressor," Morawiecki said.

According to him, a "black scenario" is being implemented, which Poland has long warned against: "the construction of Nord Stream 2, Russia's gas blackmail, billions 'invested' by Putin in former politicians and lobbyists, give him tools to terrorize other European countries."

Morawiecki stressed that Poland has for many years strongly supported Ukraine's path to integration with Europe and the West.

"We have consistently opposed further acts of aggression by Russia, including the illegal seizure of Crimea. Our voice is now on the side of our neighbors from Kyiv. We are on the side of Ukrainian freedom, democracy, security and the right of Ukrainians to individually decide the fate of their people," he said.

He added that economic and energy interests cannot be seen as a pretext for aggression against Ukraine.

Germany earlier rejected Estonia's request to provide Ukraine with German-made lethal weapons. The issue concerned the transfer of 122mm howitzers produced in the GDR.
