Ukraine and Germany are committed to the diplomatic settlement of the armed conflict in the east of Ukraine and see a common goal in holding a summit of the leaders of the Normandy Four countries.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said this at a joint press conference with his German counterpart Annalena Baerbock in Kyiv on Monday, January 17, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

Kuleba said that the main part of his talks with the German foreign minister was devoted to Russian aggression.

"We discussed the dynamics of the diplomatic settlement of the conflict [in eastern Ukraine]. Our common goal is the effective work of the Normandy format, the holding of the summit of the leaders of the Normandy format. Ukraine, together with Germany, is committed to the diplomatic settlement of this conflict," Kuleba said.

He thanked the new German government for its very active position and efforts to bring Russia back to the negotiating table.

Kuleba also noted that he was glad to welcome Baerbock to Kyiv on January 17, because diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Germany were restored exactly 30 years ago.

According to Russian media, political advisers to the leaders of the Normandy Four countries may meet again in late January or early February. The venue of the meeting has not been approved yet.
