U.S. embassy warns of security situation in Crimea and eastern Ukraine

Ukrinform
Security conditions in occupied Crimea and along Ukraine’s borders may change with little or no notice, the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine has reported.

"Attention U.S. Citizens: The Embassy of the United States of America in Ukraine continues to monitor the situation with Russia in occupied Crimea, and along Ukraine’s borders, where security conditions may change with little or no notice," the embassy posted on Twitter.

The embassy reminds that the Level Four – Do Not Travel guidance remains in effect for Crimea due to abuses by Russian occupation authorities, and for the eastern parts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions due to armed conflict.

On Thursday, April 15, U.S. President Joe Biden issued an executive order imposing new sanctions and restrictions on Russia in response to actions by the Russian government and intelligence services against U.S. interests and sovereignty.

As Ukrinform reported, the Russian armed forces have recently been building up troops near the state border of Ukraine in the north, east and south, as well as in occupied Crimea. In addition, the number of ceasefire violations by the armed formations of the Russian Federation in eastern Ukraine has increased; there are losses among the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. At the same time, the Russian Federation is conducting a propaganda campaign to justify possible aggression against Ukraine.

On April 6, it also became known that, against the background of a buildup of troops to the Ukrainian border, Russia had begun a control check of the army's combat readiness.

The United States, other Western countries, as well as the EU and NATO, came out in support of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity against the backdrop of Russia's escalation in eastern Ukraine.
