Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy / Vice-President of the European Commission, and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed common concern over Russia's build-up of military forces on the border with Ukraine.

“High Representative/Vice-President Borrell and Secretary Blinken discussed the recent developments in Ukraine and expressed their deep concern over the large ongoing build-up of Russian military forces on Ukraine’s borders and in illegally-annexed Crimea,” reads the statement released by the European External Action Service.

As noted, Josep Borrell and Antony Blinken agreed to continue to work together on the stabilisation of Afghanistan and exchanged views on the ongoing crisis in Ethiopia. Both also referred to the situation in Iran and the state of play of the ongoing discussions to bring the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action back to full implementation.

As reported, Russia has continued to concentrate troops near Ukraine's borders, while the Russian media wage an information campaign of lies and provocations to discredit Ukraine and justify Russia's military intervention under the pretext of "protecting the Russian-speaking population."
