Verkhovna Rada calls on global community to condemn occupation of Crimea

Ukraine’s Parliament has adopted a resolution on the Verkhovna Rada's appeal to the governments and parliaments of foreign states and international organizations to condemn the temporary occupation of Crimea.

The corresponding draft resolution, No.4655, was supported by 314 MPs, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

The resolution includes the Verkhovna Rada's appeal to the United Nations, the European Parliament, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the OSCE PA, the NATO PA, the BSEC PA, governments and parliaments of the countries across the world.

According to the explanatory note, the main provisions of the appeal are calls for the continuation of the policy of non-recognition of the attempted annexation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, further consolidation of international cooperation to restore Ukraine's territorial integrity, including within Ukraine’s Crimean Platform political and diplomatic initiative.

The Verkhovna Rada also calls on foreign governments and parliaments to use all possible international political, diplomatic and sanction mechanisms against the Russian Federation in order to immediately release all persons captured during the ongoing Russian armed aggression against Ukraine, as well as all other Ukrainian citizens illegally detained by the Russian Federation in the temporarily occupied territories of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Sevastopol, certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, and in the Russian Federation.

The adopted resolution instructed the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada to immediately send the text of the appeal to the UN, the European Parliament, the PACE, the OSCE PA, the NATO PA, the BSEC PA, governments and parliaments of the world countries.
