Kuleba: Currently no signs that Georgia will outrun Ukraine in getting NATO’s MAP

Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba sees no signs that Georgia will receive a NATO Membership Action Plan earlier than Ukraine, but if so, this will only strengthen Ukraine's position.

Kuleba said in an interview with TSN that "the open door policy will be definitely confirmed" at the NATO summit in autumn 2021.

"There is no doubt that Ukraine and Georgia are special partners and are as close as possible to the Alliance… As for Georgia, I currently have no indicators that Georgia will outrun Ukraine in getting MAP," the minister said.

At the same time, he noted that "there will be no betrayal" even if Georgia receives the MAP earlier than Ukraine.

"I do not think there will be any betrayal in any case. Objectively, Georgia was granted NATO's EOP status earlier than Ukraine. They have already delved very seriously into the areas which we are just beginning to delve into. I will tell you more, if Georgia is the first to receive the MAP, it will only strengthen our positions because it will show that the MAP becomes absolutely unalterable for Ukraine as well. If we get it simultaneously, it will be great also," the foreign minister noted.
