The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry is working to organize a visit by President Volodymyr Zelensky to U.S. President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration, Deputy Foreign Minister Yevhenii Yenin has said in an interview with the Interfax-Ukraine news agency.

"It's about determining the format of relevant events. It all depends on how the U.S. government decides on the format of the inauguration amid a difficult epidemic situation. Of course, if the situation allows us, we are working to ensure that contacts between the leadership of the Ukrainian state and the new U.S. administration take place as soon as possible," Yenin said.

According to him, work is underway to ensure full-fledged contacts take place between the leaders of the two countries as soon as possible, but in some ways, this is "obstructed by the epidemic situation, there are certain bureaucratic procedures that must be properly completed."

"The signals we are receiving show that Ukraine will be a priority for the United States, and this, in our opinion, will greatly accelerate the beginning of substantive contacts with the new administration," Yenin said.

Earlier reports said that Biden's inauguration was scheduled for January 20, 2021 in Washington. However, the number of guests will be limited due to the coronavirus pandemic.
