Ukraine asks EU, NATO to help cope with aftermath of floods in western regions

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has asked the partner states and headquarters of international organizations for help to deal with the aftermath of massive floods in western regions of Ukraine, the ministry’s press service has reported.

"Ukraine's Mission to the EU and Ukraine's Mission to NATO have appealed to the EU institutions and Alliance structures to activate the EU Civil Protection Mechanism and involve NATO's Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC)," said Ukraine's Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba.

The ministry counts on partners’ support for the efforts of the Ukrainian government to protect the life and health of citizens, critical infrastructure, reducing the negative impact of natural disasters on economic activity.

The ministry reminded that additional units of the Interior Ministry, the National Guard, the State Emergency Service with appropriate equipment were sent to Ivano-Frankivsk region.

As Ukrinform reported, on June 22-24, heavy rainfall caused severe flooding in Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi, Lviv, Zakarpattia and Ternopil regions, and killed three people (in Ivano-Frankivsk region).
