Wadephul calls on Hungary to immediately stop blocking EU funds for Ukraine

That is according to the German broadcaster n-tv, Ukrinform reports.

"We can no longer allow unacceptable blockades – like the one Hungary is currently imposing – to delay this urgently needed aid, which in turn costs human lives because crucial defense funds are missing," Wadephul said.

He stressed that Europeans must do even more to support Ukraine, including backing the country on its path toward EU membership. Wadephul noted that Ukraine's EU membership could become "perhaps the most important security guarantee for Ukraine overall."

Earlier, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto stated that Hungary would block the EU loan funds for Ukraine until the transit of Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline is restored.

Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Taras Kachka said that by blocking one of the documents needed for granting the loan, Hungary violated an unwritten EU rule on supporting coordinated decisions. However, he added that this will not cancel Ukraine's financing.
