Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) Oleksiy Danilov and Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran Ali Shamkhani in Tehran discussed the investigation into the crash of Boeing 737-800 aircraft of Ukraine International Airlines of January 8, 2020.

Ali Shamkhani expressed condolences to the families of the victims of the crash and stressed Iran's full readiness to cooperate in the investigation of the tragedy. In his turn, the NSDC secretary expressed his gratitude to the Iranian side for facilitating the work of the group of Ukrainian experts at the tragedy site, the NSDC press service reports.

Danilov stated that Ukraine insists on a comprehensive and thorough investigation of all the circumstances of the plane crash, ensuring compliance with international legal norms.

The NSDC secretary put particular emphasis on the urgent need to examine the "black boxes", underscoring that Ukraine has all the technical and scientific capabilities to do this.

The parties agreed on the need to avoid politicization of the technical investigation as much as possible and to intensify the interaction of experts and specialists.

On February 15-16, Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov paid a working visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran at the invitation of Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran Ali Shamkhani.

A Ukraine International Airlines plane (Flight PS752) heading from Tehran to Kyiv crashed shortly after taking off from the Imam Khomeini International Airport at about 06:00 Tehran time (04:30 Kyiv time) on Wednesday, January 8. There were 176 people on board – nine crew members (all Ukrainians) and 167 passengers (citizens of Ukraine, Iran, Canada, Sweden, Afghanistan, Germany, and the UK).

On January 11, Iran admitted that its military had accidentally shot down the Ukrainian passenger jet. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) accepted full responsibility for the downing of the Ukrainian airliner.
