Pompeo, Merkel to discuss Ukrainian issue on May 7

May 5-9, U.S. Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo will travel to Europe, where he will meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel to discuss issues of mutual concern, including the situation in Ukraine.

The U.S. Department of State informed this in a press release on May 1.

“On May 7, Pompeo will arrive in Berlin, where he will meet with Chancellor Angela Merkel and Foreign Minister Heiko Maas to discuss issues of mutual concern, such as Ukraine, Russia, China, Syria, and the Western Balkans,” reads the statement.

The Department of State informs that on May 6, Pompeo will arrive in Rovaniemi, Finland, where he will participate in the Eleventh Ministerial Meeting of the Arctic Council. He also will deliver a speech on U.S. Arctic policy.

On May 8, he will travel to London. There he will meet with Prime Minister Theresa May and Foreign Secretary Hunt to discuss shared global priorities. He will also give a speech on the U.S.‑UK Special Relationship.

On May 9, the Secretary of State will travel to Nuuk, Greenland, to meet with Greenlandic Premier Kim Kielsen, Danish Foreign Minister Anders Samuelsen, and Greenlandic Foreign Minister Ane Lone Bagger. They will discuss shared priorities in the Arctic and opportunities for expanded engagement with Greenland. He will also visit Kangerlussuaq to meet members of the New York Air National Guard who provide vital support for international Arctic research.
