Another Russian oppositionist seeking asylum in Ukraine
KYIV, October 26 /UKRINFORM/. Mikhail Maglov, an activist of the Russian movement Solidarity, addressed the Ukrainian authorities with the request for granting him political asylum because of the criminal prosecution on charges of rioting in Moscow's Bolotnaya Square.
Maglov reported about this to the interregional human rights association Agora, according to the organization's website.
"Since the investigation of the 'disorder' is becoming more and more stupid and more politically motivated, I did not see an opportunity to return and decided to apply for a refugee status," Maglov wrote to the defenders.
According to him, in late July, he learned that the police department at the place of his residence began to receive various requests. "It became clear that in the short time I could be arrested and put in prison. I decided to go to Ukraine for a while due to the lack of a foreign passport," Maglov said.
In his letter, the oppositionist also said that he was abducted by the Investigative Committee in Moscow on June 11. He was not allowed to contact with lawyers, but was urged to testify against the opposition leaders: Navalny, Nemtsov, Udaltsov, and Yashin. The activist wrote the defenders that, closer to the night, his organizer, phone and laptop were confiscated, and he was set free "without any obligation to appear at the Committee later." He also wrote that he was shadowed during three days.
Mikhail Maglov said that he is ready to return to Russia if the riots case is dismissed for lack of evidence of a crime, and all the persons involved are released.
