Carbon monoxide poisoning kills four people in Ukraine over weekend, 15 children among injured
According to Ukrinform, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported this on Facebook.
"In just under two days, on February 7–8, the 'silent killer' caused nine tragic incidents across the country. Entire families, including very young children, were among those affected," the post says.
The tragedies, which occurred in eight regions, mostly took place in rural areas.
In particular, on February 8 in the village of Zhukivtsi in the Kyiv region, four people were injured due to violations of generator safety rules. Among them were children born in 2024 and 2025.
Due to malfunctions of stove heating and gas heating systems, four people died in the Ternopil region and in Vinnytsia (two in each location).
"The main causes are improper use of alternative energy sources and heating," the State Emergency Service explained.
The most common cause of poisoning during these days was the operation of generators (five cases). People continue to place them too close to windows or even inside buildings.
In addition, two cases related to faulty stove heating and two cases involving gas equipment were recorded.
As Ukrinform reported, the State Emergency Service warned against using large gas cylinders in apartments.
