The Russian Emergency Situations Ministry initially stated that a vehicle in Balashikha had "caught fire, followed by a bang."
According to preliminary reports, the vehicle was equipped with a gas installation. The official statement did not mention any casualties or identify the individual involved.
However, the Telegram channel Baza, citing a source, claims that the car exploded just as a man was passing by, resulting in his death. The channel also reports that the victim was Major General Yaroslav Moskalik. This same name was later mentioned by several other Telegram channels with ties to security services.

Moskalik had previously appeared in Russian state media reports in 2021, where he was described as Deputy Chief of the General Staff's Main Operational Directorate. In 2015, he participated in negotiations within the so-called Normandy Format involving Russia and Ukraine.
It is unclear whether he was directly involved in Russia's war against Ukraine.
In December 2024, an explosion on Ryazansky Prospekt in Moscow killed Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, the commander of Russia's radiation, chemical, and biological defense forces, along with his aide.
