Over 1,300 tons of waste collected in Crimea following tanker accidents

This was reported by Krym.Realii with reference to Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations, according to Ukrinform.

It is noted that in Crimea, 525.4 kilometers of coastline are being inspected, stretching from the city district of Kerch to the village of Portove, with 697 tons of contaminated sand and soil collected.

In Sevastopol, 165 kilometers of coastline between Laspi and Andriivka are being examined, 650 tons of pollutants have been collected and removed.

Additionally, 18 tons of oil-containing waste have been gathered from the Black Sea waters. In Krasnodar territory, Russia, localized oil spills have been detected along the shoreline from Cape Panagia to Anapa’s Central Beach, with 181,000 units of pollutants collected since the start of cleanup efforts.

According to Ukrinform, on December 15, two Russian oil tankers, Volgoneft-212 and Volgoneft-239, sank in the Kerch Strait, spilling over 4,000 tons of fuel oil into the Black Sea.

According to the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, the damage caused by the oil spill in the Black Sea is estimated at $14 billion.
