Floods in western Ukraine: 180 populated areas flooded, 200 km of roads destroyed

A total of 180 towns and villages in Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi, Lviv, and Ternopil regions have been flooded, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine reports.

“As of 7:00 on June 27, adverse weather conditions left eight populated areas in Ivano-Frankivsk region without electricity. Emergency response teams of regional power distribution companies have been involved in the restoration of power supply. Works are underway to eliminate the effects of floods in western regions (Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi, Lviv, and Ternopil regions),” the report reads.

The natural disaster has killed three people in Ivano-Frankivsk region.

In addition, 202.3 km of roads and 94 bridges have been destroyed; 620 km of roads, 259 bridges and 650 m of dams have been damaged in flood-affected regions.

Some 1,877 people and 455 pieces of equipment have been involved in eliminating the consequences of bad weather.

As reported, heavy rainfall on June 22-24 caused floods in Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi, Lviv, and Ternopil regions.
