Zelensky hopes first tranche of EU loan will arrive in April
He said this in response to journalists’ questions, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“I discussed this issue with the leaders of the European Union, as well as with the President of the European Council, António Costa, and President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. We are feeling more optimistic – they will find ways to partially fund us. We are expecting the first tranche of the amount agreed for 2026 specifically in April,” Zelensky said.
He reminded that the decision to provide Ukraine with €90 billion in support for 2026–2027 was made last year in December and agreed upon by all EU leaders.
As reported, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó stated that Hungary would block the €90 billion financial aid to Ukraine and the EU’s 20th sanctions package until the issue of transporting oil through the Druzhba pipeline is restored.
Yesterday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that the EU would find ways to deliver the promised €90 billion loan to Ukraine despite Hungary’s opposition.
