Canada expands sanctions on Iran over crackdown on protesters
According to Ukrinform, the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced this on its website.
"Today, the Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs, announced that Canada is imposing additional sanctions against 7 individuals under the Special Economic Measures Regulations," the statement said.
The ministry noted that the targeted individuals "are linked to Iranian state bodies responsible for intimidation, violence and transnational repression targeting Iranian dissidents and human rights defenders." "Canada will continue to take concrete action to counter Iran's destabilizing activities, uphold international law and stand with the Iranian people as they seek freedom, dignity and respect for their human rights," the Foreign Ministry emphasized.
The ministry also noted that, overall, Canadian sanctions now apply to 222 Iranian individuals and 256 institutions and organizations.
As reported, yesterday President Volodymyr Zelensky met in Munich with the exiled Crown Prince of Iran, Reza Pahlavi. The President expressed condolences to the victims of the Iranian regime and emphasized that Ukraine supports the Iranian people in their struggle for their future.
