Ukraine, Poland agree to increase gas import capacity
As reported by Ukrinform, this was announced on Telegram by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.
“The Polish gas transmission system operator Gaz-System and the Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine have agreed on a phased increase in transmission capacity for gas imports from Poland to Ukraine starting in early February 2026. By the end of April, capacity on this route will rise from 15.3 million cubic meters to 18.4 million cubic meters per day,” he wrote.
Shmyhal emphasized that the Polish route provides access to various gas sources and remains one of the key directions for imports. In 2025, 2.1 billion cubic meters of gas were supplied via Poland, which is more than 30% of Ukraine’s total gas imports. This volume included about 600 million cubic meters of U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG).
As reported earlier, in June 2025, the gas transmission system operators of Ukraine and Poland agreed to increase guaranteed transmission capacity from 6.4 million cubic meters per day to 12.4 million cubic meters per day. In July of the same year, the validity of the guaranteed capacity was extended until September 2026.
