Kyiv calls for urgent UN pressure on Russian as occupied Kherson region facing humanitarian catastrophe
This was stated by Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Heorhii Tykhyi at a briefing on June 10, according to Ukrinform.
“During a UN Security Council meeting on May 19, Ukraine informed member states that the humanitarian situation in Oleshky, Hola Prystan, Stara Zburivka, and Nova Zburivka has significantly deteriorated. According to Kyiv, there are effectively no conditions left to meet basic human needs, including for children,” Tykhyi said.

He added that Russian forces are deliberately blocking civilian evacuations and obstructing the delivery of essential goods, including food and medicine. Critical infrastructure in these areas has been destroyed, with no electricity or gas supply, pushing the settlements to the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe.
“Ukraine stresses that more than 6,000 people, including around 200 children, may be in need of humanitarian assistance. The majority of those remaining are people with limited mobility. More than 220 individuals have already requested evacuation from these settlements. Ukraine is calling on the UN Secretary-General and international partners to increase pressure on Russia to ensure compliance with international humanitarian law and to create the necessary conditions and humanitarian corridors for the evacuation of civilians from these areas,” the Foreign Ministry spokesperson emphasized.
He also added that Ukraine is also raising the issue in other international forums, including the OSCE, and is continuing consultations with the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and the International Committee of the Red Cross to find possible solutions.
As previously reported, Ukrainian authorities held talks on May 15 regarding urgent humanitarian evacuation from the settlements of Oleshky, Stara Zburivka, Nova Zburivka, Hola Prystan, and others.
