Government launches grants for vegetable and fruit storage construction

This was announced on Telegram by Ukrainian Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko, according to Ukrinform.

“The Cabinet of Ministers held an agricultural meeting and adopted a number of decisions to support agricultural producers, on whom the food security of the state depends in the context of full-scale war. <...> They will enable farmers to better plan production and promote economic activity in communities, particularly near the front line,” the statement said.

Thus, a new direction of grant support for agricultural producers is being introduced. From now on, entrepreneurs will be able to receive grants for the construction of vegetable and fruit storage facilities.

Under the terms of the new program, the state will cover up to 30% of the cost of building storage facilities, but no more than UAH 20 million, subject to co-financing by the recipient. Support will be provided for the construction of new warehouses with a capacity of 3,000 tons or more, subject to the creation of jobs.

For producers in frontline regions, the state will cover up to 50% of the construction costs if the enterprise is located in areas of active or potential combat operations or owns 80% of land plots in temporarily occupied territories.

In a second decision, the government improved the mechanism for compensating for damaged crops in frontline territories.

Farmers who operate in areas of possible and active hostilities and have suffered losses due to the war or difficult weather conditions will be eligible for state support. Farmers will be able to receive compensation of up to UAH 4,700 per hectare of damaged crops, but no more than UAH 2,000 per hectare per farm.

As reported, the Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), with financial support from the Norwegian government, are launching a program to support rural communities in frontline regions. The project will be implemented in the Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Mykolaiv regions and will cover more than 6,000 rural households. The total budget of the program is $4 million. The initiative aims to ensure food production and support farmers in growing crops and raising livestock. In addition, it is planned to restore access to agricultural land contaminated with explosive objects, particularly in the Mykolaiv region.
