Mykolaiv region may receive electricity for only two hours per day, regional chief warns
This was reported on air by Vitalii Kim, Head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration (RMA), Ukrinform reports.
“Not the entire region is in blackout, but there is very little electricity. This is due to overloaded networks during the transit of imported electricity from west to east. We received instructions to cut power simultaneously to ten out of twelve sub-queues under the scheduled outages and all ten emergency outage queues. Electricity will be available for four hours a day according to schedules, and where emergency outages overlap, it may not be available at all,” Kim said.
He also noted that residents should prepare for the worst-case scenario, in which electricity in the region will be available for only two hours a day.
At the same time, the regional head said that centralized heating and water supply are functioning, though not everywhere, thanks to connections to generators.
“There are problems with private boiler houses, those located on rooftops, and with wells that pump water – when the power goes out, there is no heat or water. Drinking water distribution points are also operating intermittently – they depend on electricity as well, and many of them have frozen. However, warmer weather is expected soon, so we have to endure,” Kim said.
He also noted that the Mykolaiv region is preparing to send repair crews and generators to Kyiv, where, in his opinion, the situation is even worse.
It should be noted that the day before, Kim described the electricity situation on Telegram as a “complete nightmare.”
“There have been no strikes here (thank God), enterprises are importing electricity, and cogeneration is operating, but we are still freezing!” the regional head emphasized.
As reported, despite the presence of the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant in the Mykolaiv region, very strict power outage schedules are in effect, as most electricity is being directed to other regions of Ukraine.
