He wrote about this on social media X after discussing the situation with IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi, Ukrinform reports.
"Russia's attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure leave millions of civilians in the severe cold. The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Mariano Grossi, and I I shared concerns and discussed its serious impact on Ukraine’s nuclear power plants and nuclear safety. The Netherlands firmly supports the work of the IAEA," the post says.
Van Veel recalled that the Netherlands recently announced an additional EUR 2 million in support of IAEA missions to ensure nuclear safety in Ukraine.
According to the foreign minister, the interlocutors also discussed the latest developments regarding Iran's nuclear activities.
“It is extremely important to resume full inspections at all facilities,” he added.
As reported by Ukrinform, the IAEA stated that several Ukrainian electrical substations, which are crucial for ensuring nuclear safety, were damaged as a result of Russian strikes on the morning of January 20, and the Chernobyl nuclear power plant completely lost its external power supply.
On the same day, all facilities at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant were connected to Ukraine's unified power grid.
