Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent discussed economic cooperation and sanctions against Russia during a meeting in Kyiv.

According to Ukrinform, Shmyhal shared details of the meeting on Telegram.

"This visit confirms Trump Administration’s intention to develop pragmatic and mutually beneficial relations between our countries. Mr. Bessent reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to continuing its support for Ukraine," Shmyhal noted.

The two sides thoroughly discussed prospects for economic cooperation. According to Shmyhal, the U.S. is interested in a peaceful and strong Ukraine and is ready to assist in accelerating its recovery.

Shmyhal raised the issue of strengthening sanctions, particularly against Rosatom and Russia’s nuclear sector, emphasizing that these measures are effective tools to weaken the aggressor’s "war machine" and push it toward peace.

"I stressed the need to disconnect all Russian banks from the SWIFT system and increase efforts to combat Russia’s 'shadow fleet.' It is crucial to impose strict sanctions on Russia’s entire oil and gas sector. Additionally, frozen Russian assets should be confiscated and directed toward Ukraine’s reconstruction," Shmyhal stated.

On behalf of the Ukrainian government, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the American people and the Trump Administration for their unwavering support during this challenging period.
