Another staff rotation of the permanent monitoring mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) took place at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (NPP).

The press service of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine said this in a statement, Ukrinform reports.

"On April 27, 2023, another staff rotation of the IAEA permanent monitoring mission took place at the Zaporizhzhia NPP, which is occupied by the Russian military. Since the beginning of the work of the agency’s permanent monitoring group (from September 2022), this is already the eighth group of experts," the report says.

It is noted that despite a permanent presence of IAEA experts at the ZNPP, the Russian occupiers by their actions are causing significant damage to the nuclear and radiation safety at the nuclear plant, which significantly degraded since the occupation.

As reported, IAEA permanent monitoring missions also operate at the Khmelnytskyi, Rivne, and South Ukraine NPPs, as well as at the Chornobyl NPP, which is in the decommissioning phase.

The presence of IAEA missions at all Ukrainian nuclear power plants took place in response to Ukraine's official request.

IAEA experts at Ukrainian nuclear power plants monitor the situation and document the effects of war on the state of nuclear and radiation safety, provide technical consultations to Ukrainian specialists, study priority needs at nuclear facilities for further technical assistance.
