In the Donetsk region, the manufacturing industry has shut down so far. Most coal mining enterprises are standing idle.

The relevant statement was made by Donetsk Regional Military Administration Head Pavlo Kyrylenko during a briefing on February 23, 2023, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“Talking of the Donetsk region’s manufacturing industry, the key enterprises are now standing idle. In fact, the whole manufacturing industry in the region, including the city of Kramatorsk, has shut down. Some businesses were [relocated] in order to continue operation, but it is a small portion,” Kyrylenko told.

In his words, during the first weeks and months as the war started, Russia launched missile strikes on the Donetsk region’s key enterprises, even though they had nothing to do with the defense industry.

According to Kyrylenko, most coal mining enterprises are standing idle in the Donetsk region. Some of them may still be running in the region’s central part, but Kyrylenko refused to name them for security reasons.
