EU Council officially adopts macro-financial aid for Ukraine

The Council of the European Union overnight Friday formally approved the allocation of macro-financial assistance to Ukraine in 2023 in the amount of EUR18 billion by written procedure.

The relevant statement was published on its official website, Ukrinform reports.

“A written procedure for the formal adoption of four pieces of legislation has ended,” the Council said.

This means that the Council has formally adopted a regulation amending the multiannual financial framework for the years 2021 to 2027, which will enable the EU to use the headroom of the EU budget for its macro-financial assistance to Ukraine in 2023. This means that all EU member states will participate in this effort," the statement reads.

As reported, yesterday the Committee of Permanent Representatives of Member States to the EU at the level of ambassadors also agreed in principle on the ninth package of sanctions against the Russian Federation in connection with its aggression against Ukraine.

According to the previous announcement of the Czech Presidency of the EU, the document will also be approved today by the Council of the EU by written procedure.
