This year the United Nations has provided more than $4.5 billion in humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.

The relevant statement was made by Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a joint briefing with UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“This year the United Nations has allocated more than $4.5 billion to provide humanitarian assistance to the population of Ukraine, affected by Russian armed aggression, and those Ukrainians who have left the country. We appreciate this support and hope for the United Nations to maintain assistance at least at the same level in 2023. We have also agreed to develop additional areas of assistance,” Shmyhal said.

According to Shmyhal, Ukraine’s priority task now is to live through the challenging winter period. About 12 million Ukrainians are facing power supply shortages. Sometimes people are left without electricity for several days.

“Government is making every effort to overcome the consequences of Russian attacks, the consequences for population and economy. At the same time, Ukraine needs additional support in the immediate restoration of the energy system,” Shmyhal stressed.

In this regard, the Prime Minister of Ukraine thanked the United Nations for a batch of generators, which had already been handed over and will help Ukrainians this winter.
