Ukraine is already preparing additional grain storage facilities, which will help in the absence of exports through the country’s ports to preserve both last year's residues and the new crops, which will be actively harvested in a month.

This was stated by First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Taras Vysotskyi, Ukrinform reports with reference to the ministry’s press service.

"Given last year's transitional leftovers and this year's yield forecast, there could be a deficit of 10-15 million tonnes worth of storage capacities,” the official said, adding that mobile storage capacities are currently being imported as Plan B to be applied in case grain can’t be exported quickly.

Vysotskyi clarified that in total, there are thousands of silo capacities in Ukraine, distributed throughout the country. Ukraine’s leadership also continues to work with international partners (UN) to unblock exports through seaports.

"The idea as such is important and necessary – without it, we will not be able to realize all our export potential. And, of course, this requires several factors: sufficient amounts of anti-ship weapons and guaranteed military support. Therefore, work continues in this direction. Once all details are agreed and finalized, we will provide a follow-up," he added.

As reported, due to the Russian invasion, Ukraine’s agriculture has already sustained a $4.3 billion loss.
