EU ambassador calls on Ukraine not to adopt bill on localization

Ukrinform
The European Union expects Ukraine not to adopt a bill containing proposals to introduce localization requirements in the field of public procurement, as it contradicts the Association Agreement, Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Matti Maasikas has said.

According to an Ukrinform correspondent, he said this at a meeting of the commission on coordinating the implementation of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement.

"We expect the Ukrainian side to refrain from adopting legislation that does not comply with the Association Agreement. This applies to the proposal to introduce requirements for localization in the field of public procurement," Maasikas said.

On January 20, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed Verkhovna Rada Chairman Dmytro Razumkov and Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal regarding the need to comply with Ukraine's international obligations when amending the legislation in the field of public procurement. In this context, the head of state drew attention to a number of initiatives that provide for the removal of the procurement of goods and services in various fields from the scope of the law of Ukraine "On Public Procurement" in general or from the scope of its individual provisions.
