Poroshenko opens strategic bridge in Kharkiv region
"It has finally happened. They always say that trenches divide people, but bridges unite them," he said.
Poroshenko said that earlier the road looked like a "minefield" and that "it was very dangerous to let a truck drive through the bridge," but now it can withstand a weight of up to 30 tons.
He also noted that the construction of the bridge had cost UAH 13 million in state budget funds, UAH 7 million allocated as part of a "customs experiment" and over UAH 2 million from the local budget.
The opening ceremony was also attended by Infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Omelian and Head of Kharkiv Regional State Administration Yulia Svitlychna.
The bridge across Siversky Donets in Izium was built after the Second World War by POWs. Its length is 210 meters.
