Ukrainians warned against new threat from MMM financial pyramid

The agency's official website reads.

“We warn against possible fraudulent actions, aimed at misinforming citizens and discrediting of authorities of the State Financial Inspection of Ukraine, whose main task is financial control over the use and preservation of state financial resources,” a statement reads.

The agency notes that recently, information from citizens come to the trust line that allegedly the State Financial Inspection representatives address them in the telephone regime with proposals to ensure the return of funds to them as depositors of the MMM 2001 financial pyramid. Taking this into consideration, the State Financial Inspection informs that there were no calls on behalf of the agency.

The agency representatives have already approached the Interior Ministry on this case.

Pyramid organizer Sergey Mavrodi has announced about setting up the MMM 2001 at the beginning of 2011. A mode of its functioning was based on operations with the MMM dollars, whose rate was set up by Mavrodi himself. Depositors were promised the yield at several hundred percent a year, at the same time, participants have been warned that they could lose their funds.

The pyramid has collapsed in May 2011, despite all notifications of its heads about groundlessness of such information. At that same time, the State Commission for Regulation of Financial Services proposed to establish criminal responsibility for setting up “financial pyramids.”
