SSU calls charges against General Vitiuk retaliation for detention of NABU detectives

The SSU claims that the case against Vitiuk, opened more than a year ago, was revived only after the arrests of NABU officers accused of collaborating with Russia. The agency stressed that NABU and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office had failed to collect solid evidence of illegal enrichment or false asset declarations.

The SSU pointed to multiple expert conclusions and a review by the National Agency on Corruption Prevention, which allegedly found no violations. They also cited Vityiuk’s wife’s legitimate business income and witness testimonies that contradict the prosecution’s claims.

The agency highlighted Vitiuk’s role since Russia’s full-scale invasion, including leading cyber defense, countering thousands of cyberattacks, and participating in combat operations in several regions. Under his leadership, the SSU cyber department created combat units, including sniper and drone groups, which contributed to major battlefield successes.

Earlier, NABU and SAPO accused Vitiuk of acquiring an apartment at an undervalued price with unexplained funds. Media investigations also reported that his family owns real estate worth over $650,000. He was suspended and later dismissed from his post in the SSU’s cyber department following those reports.

Meanwhile, the SSU continues its own cases against NABU staff, alleging collaboration with Russia. Civil society groups, however, have raised concerns over possible falsification of some evidence.
