Murder of Parubiy: Regional Prosecutor’s Office signs suspicion against 52-year-old Lviv resident

Head of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office Mykola Meret signed a suspicion notice against a 52-year-old Lviv resident in the case of the murder of former Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada and Member of Parliament of the 9th convocation Andriy Parubiy.

According to Ukrinform, this was reported on Telegram by the Office of the Prosecutor General.

The Head of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office personally signed the notice of suspicion in this case. According to him, “the suspicion is based on objective evidence indicating that the detained person murdered the Member of Parliament.”

The suspect’s actions have been qualified under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: Part 1 of Article 115 (premeditated murder) and Part 1 of Article 263 (illegal handling of weapons).

Investigative actions with the suspect are ongoing. Searches are being conducted at his places of residence and stay.

All urgent investigative actions are being carried out with the participation of prosecutors who are coordinating the course of the investigation.

A motion is being prepared for the court to apply a preventive measure in the form of detention without the possibility of bail.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Measures are being taken to clarify all the circumstances of the incident.

Operational support is being provided by the Main Department of the National Police in the Lviv region, the National Police of Ukraine, employees of the Strategic Investigations Department (SIS) of Ukraine in the Lviv region, as well as officers of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Lviv region and the SSU.

As reported by Ukrinform, in the afternoon of August 30 in Lviv, former Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada and Member of Parliament Andriy Parubiy was shot dead.

The attacker fled, and a special operation “Siren” was announced in the city.

Head of the police in the Lviv region, Oleksandr Shliakhovskyi, and Head of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, Mykola Meret, stated that law enforcement officers will investigate the version of a possible Russian trace in Parubiy’s murder.

President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that in the Khmelnytskyi region, law enforcement officers detained the suspect in Parubiy’s murder.
