A 33-year-old woman was arrested in Mykolaiv for planning a terrorist attack in a residential district of the city on instructions from Russia.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in Mykolaiv region reported this on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.

"The Security Service thwarted another attempt by the FSB to carry out a bloody terrorist attack in Mykolaiv. As a result of a special operation, a Russian agent was arrested who was planning a double explosion in one of the city's residential areas," the post said.

During the investigation, it was established that following instructions from the occupiers, the suspect was tasked with placing a homemade explosive device (HED) under the hood of a parked car in a courtyard, with the intention of detonating it remotely.

When law enforcement, emergency services, and rescuers arrived at the scene, the enemy planned to activate a second HED, which the agent had disguised in a tree just a few meters from the mined car. It was additionally rigged with metal nuts to increase its destructive impact.

Using this explosive "trap," the enemy intended to kill or severely injure as many people as possible, thereby provoking panic in the regional center, the SBU said.

SBU counterintelligence agents uncovered the Russian agent in advance, meticulously documented her crimes, and apprehended her in the act when she attempted to plant the HED under the vehicle during the curfew.

According to the case materials, the arrested individual is a 33-year-old woman from Dnipropetrovsk region, who was recruited by the FSB via a Telegram channel promoting "easy money" in February this year.

SBU investigators notified the detainee of the charges under Article 15, Part 2, and Article 258, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (attempted terrorist act).

The suspect remains in custody without the right to bail. She faces up to ten years in prison with confiscation of property.
