The Security Service of Ukraine detained in Kyiv a female suspect who is believed to be a member of the Islamic State international terrorist organization, wanted by Interpol.

That’s according to the SBU press center, Ukrinform reports.

Security operatives say the culprit, who is a citizen of one of the Central Asian countries, is an active member of the terrorist organization.

In her home country, the woman recruited mercenaries to take part in armed conflicts in the territory of Syria.

"In order to legalize her status in Ukraine and avoid prosecution in her home country, a foreigner, by submitting knowingly false information, obtained a permanent residence permit," the statement reads.

The court has ruled to remand the suspect in pre-extradition custody.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, this year the SBU banned from entering Ukraine 190 foreign nationals affiliated with terrorist and extremist organizations.
