Drone attack disrupts operations at 13 airports in southern Russia

"The operation of the regional center in Rostov-on-Don, which manages air traffic in southern Russia, has been temporarily adjusted due to Ukrainian UAV strikes on the administrative building of the Air Navigation of Southern Russia branch. Personnel are safe, and an assessment of the equipment's operational capability is underway," the Russian Transport Ministry said in a statement.
Operations were temporarily suspended at airports in Astrakhan, Vladikavkaz, Volgograd, Gelendzhik, Grozny, Krasnodar, Makhachkala, Magas, Mineralnye Vody, Nalchik, Sochi, Stavropol, and Elista.
The ministry said that air traffic management procedures and flight schedules were being adjusted.
Russian media, citing the Association of Tour Operators of Russia, reported that more than 80 flights were delayed or canceled at southern airports, with at least 14,000 passengers waiting for departures. According to the Telegram channel Mash, 184 flights were delayed and 26 canceled.
Flights were also suspended at Moscow's Vnukovo Airport. More than 50 flights were delayed or canceled there, with some aircraft unable to depart for more than 24 hours.
Russia's Defense Ministry claimed that its air defense forces shot down 264 UAVs overnight on May 8 over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Lipetsk, Rostov, Ryazan, Smolensk, Tula, Ulyanovsk, and Yaroslavl regions, Krasnodar Krai, temporarily occupied Crimea, the Republic of Tatarstan, the Moscow region, and over the waters of the Azov and Black Seas.
