Russian forces have carried out 596 strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.

Acting head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU), Yevhenii Khmara, announced this during the conference "United for Justice. Accountability for Crimes Against Civilians," according to Ukrinform.

"At the initial stage, the enemy's main target was the energy system. Later, gas and oil infrastructure, as well as hydropower and hydraulic facilities, came under attack. In total, we have recorded more than 596 strikes. These were massive attacks on Ukraine's critical infrastructure," he said.

According to him, the enemy began striking civilian infrastructure from the very start of the full-scale invasion, and in 2025 the number of attacks exceeded the total for the previous three years combined.

The enemy's main objective is to destroy gas production, damage backup capacity, and create shortages of energy resources before and during the heating season.

In particular, during the 150 days of the 2025/2026 heating season, the enemy carried out 129 attacks on Ukraine's gas infrastructure. Their goal was to put pressure on the civilian population during a harsh winter.

"Eighty repeat strikes were carried out against energy facilities. Their purpose is simple — to strike when rescuers, doctors, and investigative teams arrive to document the crimes," said Deputy Prosecutor General Oleksii Khomenko.

As Ukrinform previously reported, in 2025 the infrastructure of the Naftogaz Group was subjected to 229 attacks, with the intensity of shelling being higher than during the previous three years combined.
