Last year, 41 people were killed and more than 970 were injured in Kharkiv as a result of Russian shelling, while the number of destroyed or damaged sites reached 13,000.

Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said this in an interview with Ukrinform.

“Figures speak for themselves. Only in 2025, the city was shelled 728 times. 973 people were injured, including 106 children. 41 residents, unfortunately, we lost – people were killed. This is our greatest pain. Because any walls can be rebuilt, but life cannot be brought back,” the Mayor said.

He noted that the enemy uses various types of weapons and carries out combined strikes.

“Summing up the four years of full-scale war, for the city it has been a period of harsh adaptation to entirely new threats. The main danger for Kharkiv remains constant attacks from the air. For five years in a row, the enemy has been testing us for resilience and uses its entire arsenal against the city. We have seen everything – except Oreshnik, fortunately. There have been aircraft, guided aerial bombs, missiles, reactive Shaheds, and AI-equipped drones. The Russians strike in combination, aiming for maximum psychological pressure on people,” Terekhov said.

According to him, nearly 2,400 objects were damaged or destroyed in the past year alone, bringing the total number to over 13,000.

“The most acute problem is energy. It directly affects water supply, heating, and life in general. Only this heating season, we endured 50 attacks on our energy facilities. We are developing a distributed energy system: installing cogeneration equipment and building backup power schemes, because large facilities are easy targets for the enemy,” the Mayor noted.
