Film director Ihor Malakhov was killed on the front lines; he had been listed as missing in action since 2023.

According to Ukrinform, the Institute of Mass Information reported this, citing a Facebook post by film director and screenwriter Volodymyr Tykhyi.

Malakhov was killed on December 29, 2023, during fighting near Avdiivka, close to the village of Stepove in the Donetsk region.

According to Tykhyi, the fallen soldier was identified through DNA testing.

Malakhov was a graduate of the National Pedagogical Dragomanov University and the All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography.

From 1997 to 2000, he served as deputy director of the Dovzhenko Film Studios for youth cinema.

Malakhov would have turned 60 on April 26.

Before joining the army, he made his video materials freely available on his YouTube channel.

The farewell ceremony for Malakhov will take place on Tuesday, April 21, at 10:00 a.m. on Independence Square in Kyiv. The funeral service will be held at the Church of Saints Peter and Paul at the Berkovets Cemetery. Malakhov will be laid to rest in the Alley of Fame.

As reported by Ukrinform, TSN cameraman Yevhenii Solovei was killed in the war.
